What We Did
When the First United Methodist Church of Milledgeville outgrew their old downtown building; it was a natural move for Georgia College and State University to acquire it.
The building was renovated to accommodate student activities and T. Lake Environmental Design began developing a contemporary plan that appealed to typical students at GC&SU.
With the church having strong architectural elements, the designers mimicked those elements onto the ground. The columns, arches, windows and gables on the building were mirrored into the hardscape in the two large gathering areas.
Magnolias, boxwoods, mondo, azaleas, camellias, ferns and hollies were used in keeping the surrounding native southern garden.
Large concrete bollards were used to protect pedestrians from nearby traffic and are also a reflection of architectural elements on the building.
