TWIGGS TIMES
Editor:  Belynda Enzor

Jeffersonville, Georgia, June 16, 2010 - The Jeffersonville Downtown Development Authority met Tuesday afternoon, 15 June 2010 at 5pm at the Chamber of Commerce building and welcomed Matt Poyner of T.Lake Environmental Design to their meeting.  Matt announced receipt of a letter from the DOT giving the go ahead for the city to start work on the downtown Streetscape project.  Matt also mentioned the bids for both demolition and construction need to be advertised and the railroad should be notified as to the good news as they have been part of the planning all along.  The railroad requires a certain width of right of way for safety reasons, which is incorporated into the DDA Streetscape plan. The money for this project came from a grant, approximately 480K (111k that the city, local government, citizens and business owners contributed), that Jim Marshall helped to acquire.  Academy Sports donated the last 15k.  The beautification of the north side of the tracks/Hwy 80 is the first of three phases planned for Jeffersonville.  Phase two will included the south side of the tracks/Hwy80 and phase three will continue down Hwy 80 to the lake. The project should begin late summer 2010 with a focus on keeping the historic look to downtown but with much needed updating.  The old brick in the sidewalks will be preserved as well as the crepe myrtles that currently stand between the railroad tracks and highway 80 which will be transplanted to a new location.
